It is the responsibility of the traveller to ensure they obtain the correct visa for travel. If you hold a British passport, you do not need a visa to enter Norway. If you hold any other nationality passport or originate from any other country, please check the relevant Embassy website. Information can be found for British Nationals on the FCO website.

You may want to take a copy of your passport and flight confirmations with you – if you lose the originals it is easier to get replacements if you have copies.

Please ensure you have proof of return travel tickets and hotel accommodation to hand for arrival as you may need to present details of this.

Travel insurance is mandatory for all trips and you need to carry a copy of your certificate with you. If you haven’t purchased it already, we have partnered up with Columbus Travel Insurance and you can buy your policy through us.

The currency in Norway is the Norwegian Krone (NOK). You can take cash out of ATM’s in Norway or take GBP, Euros or US Dollars to exchange when you get there. Credit cards are also accepted in the majority of places.

Norway is an expensive country to visit. A main meal in a restaurant can cost anywhere between £15 – £30 excluding alcohol, which is also pretty pricey – a glass of wine will set you back around £10. We recommend budgeting £40 – £50 a day for meals and drinks (not including alcohol). Any souvenir shopping you wish to do would be on top of this. You will have a better idea of how much you usually spend when on holiday, so please plan accordingly.

If you feel as though you have received a good service, please reward your local guide with a tip. We recommend £4 – £5 per person, per day. Tipping is of course voluntary but gratefully accepted in recognition of good service.

If you would prefer to have your own room on this trip, the additional cost would be £250. Please let us know at the time of booking as it cannot be guaranteed closer to the time.

All transportation during this trip will be by road in private (heated!) vehicles. In order to see the Northern Lights during your evening excursion, you may be in the bus for a couple of hours, sometimes even heading towards the Finnish border – it all depends on where the lights are most visible.

  • You will need comfortable, waterproof boots. It snows a lot in Tromso so ski boots would be a good option if you have them. During the Northern Lights & Dog Sledding excursions you will be able to rent proper boots and snow suits but it’s best if you take your own.
  • During the winter months of December – February, it’s extremely important to bring your thermal layers as temperatures are often below freezing. Even during the autumn (SEP-NOV) and late winter/early spring (MAR-MAY), you will still need to bring warm layers and waterproof boots as it will still be cold.
  • Hats, scarves, thermal gloves, jumpers, thick socks & waterproof trousers (if you have them)
  • Waterproof coat
  • Re-fillable water bottle (the tap water is safe to drink in Norway)
  • A good camera & tripod if you want to take photos of the Northern Lights – your guide will also be taking professional photos of the lights to share with the group at the end of the trip
  • Plug adapters – These can be viewed via the link:

We never recommend taking more luggage than you can personally carry as there might not always be someone on hand to help you. One suitcase ideally that can be wheeled, and a small day pack will be more than enough.

Whilst travelling in Norway is very safe, we recommend you don’t bring anything you won’t really need – expensive jewellery and watches are not necessary, you can leave them at home. Be vigilant always and avoid carrying large amounts of money around with you. You could invest in a money belt to go under your clothes to keep cards, money or air tickets in for extra safety.

You shouldn’t need to have any vaccinations for travel to Norway, but it’s always good to arrange an appointment with your doctor or travel nurse before you go anywhere and make sure your vaccinations are up to date. Please check the government website if you need more information.

You will find the water in Norway is delicious and absolutely fine for you to drink, as it’s great quality. You can usually drink water from all taps in Norway, unless it states otherwise.

If you take medication for anything or think you may need something whilst you are away, it’s better to take it with you from the UK as items may not be as readily available as they are here.

If you are travelling from a country with a risk of Yellow Fever, you will need to take a valid certificate with you to prove you have had the vaccine.

We recommend you read the travel advice for any country you are visiting ahead of your visit. This can be accessed on the FCO website.

If you wish to go on the Dog Sledding Excursion on Day 3, please get in touch in advance of travel to book your place. The additional cost for this is £155. It’s a fantastic day out in the middle of the Norwegian wilderness and lunch is included at the camp.
