Dreaming of beautiful landscapes, fascinating wildlife and fairy-tale castles? Our Highlights of Romania tour is perfect for you! Join other solo travellers on this 6-day adventure through one of Eastern Europe’s most intriguing countries. We’ll kick start our tour in the country’s capital, Bucharest, famed for its quaint cobbled streets, unique architecture and abundance of coffee shops. And of course, no trip would be complete without a visit of the city’s epic 12-storey Palace of Parliament, the second largest administrative building in the world. We’ll discover the best of Romania’s wildlife with a visit to the Zarnesti Bear Sanctuary, the biggest brown bear sanctuary in the world! We’ll then venture into the Transylvanian countryside, brimming with medieval charm, to discover the areas beautiful castles; Peles and Bran – the latter the setting for Bram Stoker’s Dracula! On our penultimate day, we’ll visit the Medieval Fortress of Sighisoara, a beautiful medieval citadel, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. A country enriched with history, delicious food and architectural treasures; Romania will leave you in awe!

Day 1 - Arrive Bucharest

Today is an arrival day so there are no planned activities. Check-in at the hotel will be from 2pm onwards. If you arrive in time, you can join your guide and the rest of the group for dinner to get to know your fellow travellers! Overnight in Bucharest.

Day 2 - Bucharest

After breakfast at the hotel, we will start a walking city tour of Bucharest. During the tour you will visit the Romanian Athenaeum, the city’s Old town, the Revolution Square and the stunning 12-storey Palace of Parliament. The afternoon will be at your leisure for further exploration. Your tour leader will organise a dinner for the evening. Overnight in Bucharest.

Day 3 - Bucharest / Sinaia / Bran

After breakfast we will leave Bucharest behind and head to Sinaia to visit the magnificent Neo-Renaissance Peles Castle in the Carpathian Mountains, which is on an existing medieval route linking Transylvania and Wallachia, built between 1873 and 1914. Peles Castle is one of the most stunning castles in Europe, a masterpiece of architecture in the picturesque city of Sinaia. After lunch there will be free time to explore Sinaia. We will then continue on to Bran, where we will visit Bran Castle. Surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend and perched high atop a 200-foot-high rock, Bran Castle owes its fame to its imposing towers and turrets as well as to the myth created around Bram Stocker’s Dracula. Day 4 - Bran / Zarnesti / Brasov / Viscri / Sighisoara

After breakfast we will visit the biggest brown bear sanctuary in the world, Zarnesti Bear Sanctuary. Zarnesti Bear Sanctuary is home to many European brown bears and black bears, all saved from a life of captivity and cruelty, where you can get an incredible close-up experience with many rescued bears. We will then head off to the medieval city of Brasov which blends dramatic mountain scenery and medieval history to create a rich and unforgettable visitor experience. During a walking tour you will discover the Main Square, the old Council Hall, the Black Church and the medieval walls and defence towers. Later in the afternoon, we will set off to Viscri, deep in the heart of Transylvania, is a unique place full of medieval charm, a UNESCO World Heritage village. Once we arrive in Viscri we start the walking tour that will give us an excellent opportunity to admire the beautiful architectural style of the houses and the idyllic way of life unaltered by time. The most impressive attraction, the Fortified Church, will give us an amazing history of this unique place. Overnight in Sighisoara.

Day 5 - Sighisoara / Alba-Iulia / Sibiu

After breakfast we will begin our day visiting the Medieval Fortress of Sighisoara. Sighisoara is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved medieval citadels, very fairy-tale like, and part of the UNESCO World Heritage which is still inhabited today. The walking tour will reveal the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, Dracula’s House. We will then carry onto explore Alba Carolina Fortress, the largest and well-preserved in Romania, unique in the European military architecture. We will then head to Sibiu, amazing medieval city in the heart of Transylvania, one of the largest and wealthiest strongholds in Europe, nowadays a city of art and culture. Overnight in Sibiu.

Day 6 - Sibiu / Depart Bucharest

After breakfast, we will start our long drive back to Bucharest (approx. 4-5 hours) to catch international flights home.
